Verbena Bonariensis flowerr

Argentinian vervain, more usually known by its scientific name of Verbena bonariensis, is a tall plant (c2m / 6‘), with clusters of very small lavender-coloured flowers, in flattened clusters at the top of the stem. As its name suggests, it is native to South America, where it is widespread.

It is a popular plants with butterflies and other pollinators, and will self-seed, though it often chooses to do so in cracks between pavers or in gravel paths and drives rather than in the soil where the mother plant was placed.

As well as for attracting pollinators, it is grown to provide height to a border without adding bulk, as the tall stems are very sparsely leaved.
