Caledonian Isles in front of Arran

The Caledonian Isles in front of Arran

The Cal-Mac car ferry M.V. Caledonian Isles (in Gaelic: Eileanan Chaledonia) in front of a snowy Isle of Arran, featuring Goat Fell, one of the four Corbetts on the island.

Usually known as the ‘Arran Ferry’, she plies the route between Ardrossan on the mainland of North Ayrshire to Brodick, on the island. She was launched in May 1993 and had her maiden voyage in August of that year.

The Caledonian Isles has the largest capacity of the Cal-Mac fleet. She can carry up to 1000 passengers and 110 cars, but due to increasing demand, is being replaced by the M.V. Glen Sannox, probably in early – mid 2022, whereupon she will be used for extra capacity and sailings in summer, a role currently played by the M.V. Isle of Arran, and formerly by the M.V. Saturn.
