Small Tortoiseshell Butterfly on Heather

A Small Tortoiseshell butterfly, Aglais urticae, on heather, in my garden. This seems very early for butterflies around here, but the queen bumblebees have been around for weeks, which is also very early. Also, I very seldom see butterflies in my garden except in August and September when they come to my Buddleja. So it was gratifying to see that my plan to provide early nectar for insects has proved useful to at least one Butterfly.
