Bateau mouche on the River Seine with the Palais du Louvre / Louvre Museum and the Pont Royal in the background. Paris, France.
The river Seine flows through the centre of Paris, though of course it’s more accurate to say that Paris grew up around the Seine, since the tribe known as the Parisii settled on the banks of the river around 259BC. Subsequently, it was taken over by the Romans and the settlement was called Lutetia, and wasn’t known formally as Paris until the fourth century AD/CE.
Since the city grew around the river, the Bateaux Mouches (sightseeing boats) are an excellent way to see many of the interesting sights of Paris, like the Eiffel Tower, the Musée d’Orsay, the Monnaie, the Town Hall, the Conciergerie, Notre Dame Cathedral, the Ile de la Cité and the Left Bank. So these trips are very popular with tourists.
