Architectural detail of a pillar in Mumbai International Airport – Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport Terminal 2 – which was designed with several regional references, including the peacock’s tail.
Desgined by the American team Skidmore Owings & Merrill (SOM) the design of the ‘coffered ceiling’ was inspired by the shape of traditional Indian pavilions, while also referencing the airport’s symbol, the peacock.

Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport Terminal 2 covers 40 hectares/4 million ft² and can process 40 million passengers per year.
