I’ve been supplying stock photos to iStock since late 2006 (when it was still iStockphoto), Alamy since 2009 and Getty Images, for several years.
Stock images are bought by a wide range of buyers, from somone wishing a photo to illustrate a point in a presentation, or to illustrate books, or book covers, via bloggers and YouTubers, to newspapers and magazines, whether traditional or online, and not forgetting companies who need images for their advertisements and marketing.
Usually as a stock photographer, I don’t see how my photos are used, but using various Reverse Image Search programs and apps, I’ve been able to find some. A few of these in-uses I’m not delighted about, but that’s just part of the territory, we can’t choose who can buy our images. Most of my found in-uses I’m neutral about, and some really delight me when I find one of my photos being used to illustrate a story about an issue of concern.
Just for fun, here is a random selection of my photos which I’ve found in-use, ‘out in the wild’.
