I’ve only been gardening for a few years, but one of my favourite groups of plants is the Heuchera/Tiarella/xHeucherella group of the Saxifrage family. Originating in North America, there is now a wide range of colours and leaf textures. In North America, Heucheras are also known as ‘Coral Bells’ because of their pretty, bell-shaped flowers, Tiarellas are ‘foamflowers, and their hybrid, xHeucherellas are known as ‘Foamy Bells’.
Sadly, the West of Scotland isn’t necessarily the best place to grow them, as they don’t like wet soil. They are prone to Heuchera Rust and susceptable to Vine Weevils, but they are certainly worth the extra effort.
This cultivar, ‘Marmalade’ has very pretty leaves in shades of orange, pink and yellow.
