An alert, wild, female Golden Jackal, Canis aureus, looking over a sand dune at UItima Frontiera in the Danube Delta Biosphere Reserve in eastern Romania.
This female, with her two or three cubs (mystery!), arrived early every day to scavenge the fish remains which were being put out to attract White-tailed Eagles to an area in front of a photo hide. Similar photo from Alamy.
Only the mother came for the fish, she ‘parked’ the cubs on a sunny slope about 100 yards/metres away, where they rested in the early morning sun. Stock photo available from iStock.
Sometimes the well-grown cubs, which were always ‘parked’ in the same place, groomed each other, or indulged in spells of play-fighting. Similar stock photo available from iStock.
