Two Egyptian Vultures

Two Egyptian Nightjars, Caprimulgus aegyptius, sleeping on sand during the day at Erg Chebbi on the edge of the Sahara Desert in Morocco, north Africa.

This is an extremely well-camouflaged species which prefers rocky or sandy ground to roost and even nest on. It is very difficult to see other than at very close range.

Egyptian Nightjars summer in desert areas of North Africa, and south-west Asia, and they migrate to winter in the Sahel in tropical Africa. They don’t make a nest, but lay their eggs directly onto the sand.
