The Crown Spire of St Giles' Cathedral, Edinburgh

Detail of the Crown Spire of St Giles Cathedral in the very centre of Edinburgh on the Royal Mile.

St Giles’ Cathedral is a historic, category A listed building in the heart of the Old Town of Edinburgh. The cathedral originated in medieval times, and the current pinnacled Gothic-style Crown Spire, supported by eight flying buttresses, was re-designed and built by John Mylne in 1648. The Crown Steeple is one of the most instantly recognisable features of the Edinburgh skyline.

Musical bells were installed in the tower in 1700.
