The Isle of Arran lies in the Firth of Clyde, between North Ayrshire and the Mull of Kintyre. It is a very popular Scottish tourist destination, with several villages round the coastline, each with its own character. It is a great destination for outdoor activities and for observing or studying nature, and has several highly-rated hotels.
The highest mountain on the island, shown in the image, is Goat Fell, which as a Corbett is a popular hillwalking peak.
I took this photo yesterday – a delightful cold, sunny day on the North Ayrshire shore. Unusually for early January, there was no wind right on the coast in Saltcoats, from which this photo was taken.
