Iconic Acorn Street, a typical narrow cobbled street in the wealthy Beacon Hill area of Boston, Mass. Built in the late 1820s, Acorn Street is sometimes called the ‘most picturesque street in the USA’.
For the first forty or so years of its existence, Acorn Street was in the largely African-American community of craftsmen, artisans and servants, the latter working in the upper-class houses further up Beacon Hill.
Nowadays, Acorn Street is a residential area, open to all, but rather upscale (in 2018, one of the houses was for sale for $3.4m.) The streetlamps are actual functioning gas lamps. It is one of the last cobbled streets in the US.
