A canal in the Cannaregio area of Venice, Italy.
Cannaregio is the area of central Venice which is between the lagoon and the Grand Canal, and from the Rialto Bridge to the railway station. It is one of the six districts (‘striatti’) of Venice’s city centre.
Of interest in the Cannaregio district are the Ca d’oro, (a former palace turned into a gallery), the Jewish Ghetto (the one which originated the term ‘ghetto’), several attractive churches and Fondamenta Nove, a pretty walk in itself, and the base from which ferries depart to some of the islands in the northern lagoon.
