The Leaning Tower of Pisa

The Leaning Tower of Pisa, torre pedente di Pisa, the world-famous landmark in Tuscany, Italy.

Construction of the 60m tall campanile was begun in 1173, and because of wars in the area, it took 300 years to complete. The name of the architect is unknown. The tower has eight stories and 207 columns.

The campanile is just one of the buildings on the Campo dei Miracoli. The Duomo was started in 1064, then the Baptistery was begun c1153.
