Samburu woman

This young woman is sporting an interesting re-purposing of the traditional beaded necklace.
The beads have been imported from Czechoslovakia for many years. Originally the beads were coloured glass, but nowadays they can also be plastic.
They are traditionally threaded on to copper wire, though I noticed that this wasn't always the case in this village. Some are then sewn onto a circlet of animal hide.
