Plains Zebras in Etosha National Park

Zebras leaving waterhole after sunset

Equus burchelli

These Plains Zebras were leaving the waterhole at Okakuejo just after the sun set, but before the floodlights took over from the ambient light.
I had never seen this before: a kill which had been devoured 'from the inside' (as it were) leaving only skin and bones. Remains of a Zebra: skin and bones
Plains Zebra and foal Everybody's got to have a cutsie shot, and this is the best I could do from this trip. Note how, in contrast to the Mountain Zebras, the local race of Plains Zebras is unstriped down its legs and has distinct shadow stripes, especially the adults.
