Dune 45

Dune 45, so called because it is 45 km from 'the office', is the most widely known of the Namibian dunes through photography.
This is the 'classic' view from the road.

Published photos usually show it with an Oryx climbing to the top, but we didn't see this: apparently they climb to find some breezes in the heat of the day, and we were there early-to-mid morning. There is a side track from the 'main road' through the dunes to the base of the dune, where there is a picnic site.
This is a view of the 'dark side' with a camelthorn tree.
Most people who stop here climb to the top. If you are mainly interested in photography, give this a miss unless you have a lot of time: the views aren't worth it, and you can easily spend a few hours photographing around the base.
